Learning Czech: A Challenging Week 2
It’s been two weeks since my first Czech lesson on Duolingo, and the cracks are starting to show. As usual, life gets in the way at the worst possible time, and this week I haven’t been able to devote as much time to my learning as I would have liked. Still, it’s time for reflection!
The masculine and feminine word endings from Spanish are deeply entrenched in my brain, and this is causing confusion with the different Czech endings. I simply can’t comprehend how any letter other than o can be masculine. Don’t even get me started on the neuters!
The lessons themselves are also much harder, with lots of new vocabulary introduced in every section. I’m struggling to keep up, so I might start a Quizlet flashcard set to practice the new words. Another difficulty is the fact that spellings and pronunciations seem to change drastically (at least to me it seems drastic) when words change from singular to plural. Just another thing to get used to, I suppose. Here’s hoping that week three will be smoother sailing.
