Learning Czech: The Countdown Begins
Less than four weeks to go until my trip! Now, when I look at a calendar, I can see today and my departure date in the same month! I know time will fly over the next three and a half weeks, so let’s see how much progress I’ve made so far, and how much I have left to cover.
I’ve started the next section in the Duolingo Czech course, but as I expected, it’s getting harder and harder. I’ve also had a realisation this week - when I’m in Prague, I won’t need to be able to talk about foxes chasing after cats, or tourists with phones. I’ll need practical language for asking for directions, or ordering food.
With this in mind, I’ve spent about half of my time on Duolingo this week revising the content from Section 1, with the aim of solidifying the basics. I’ve also spent more time on pronunciation so that people actually understand me when I try to speak to them!
I probably won’t be making much progress through the course in the next few weeks, because I want to master as much of the essential vocabulary and grammar as possible that I’ll need for my trip. There will be plenty of time to drill down into the hard stuff later, if I decide to keep Czech up (spoiler alert - I think I will!)
